BIM for Manufacturing
Digital Manufacturing is an integrated approach to manufacturing that is centered around a computer system. The transition to digital manufacturing has become more popular with the rise in the quantity and quality of computer systems in manufacturing plants.
As more automated tools are being used in manufacturing plants, it has become necessary to model, simulate, and analyze all of the machines, tooling, and input materials in order to optimize the manufacturing process.
Overall, digital manufacturing can be seen sharing the same goals as computer-integrated manufacturing, flexible manufacturing, lean manufacturing, and design for manufacturability.
The main difference is digital manufacturing was evolved for use in the computerized world. The process can enable designers to generate brand new options, beyond what a human alone could create, to arrive at a most effective design.
Through analyzation of current trends and applicable software, we develop a method for rapid prototyping and panel optimization.
This process places emphasis on front-loading key data collected during the initial panel development, while building a parametric framework for evaluation and production. This method allows for a seamless transition between design phases while maintaining a direct link for change and evaluation.
The next step in the process is taking the preferred design options and applying the production analysis to further develop the optimal solution, while still maintaining the direct link back to the initial driving data. The model is linked directly to BIM software for further design development and materials documentation. Meaning if and when change is needed, it creates an almost real time turn around.
Utilizing 3D modeling methods to design the families and processes allows for optimal design layout and control of the overall production flow. This technique also allows users to analyze the current manufacturing processes and to search for ways to increase efficiency in production before production even begins.
In brief, the system is designed to evaluate and produce optimal solutions by streamlining the transfer between design phases while generating efficiency in change and turnaround.
